An interesting effect is that the higher steps (the ones closer to you)
appear smaller than the ones further away. This seems to be a reversed
size constancy. (If we see two copies of the same object at different
distances, our brain tries to compensate for the apparently smaller 
size of the distant one, making the two look the same size. This effect
is known as 'size constancy'.)
